Return to Sport Testing
We provide testing to ensure that you have the proper tools to get back to playing safely and effectively. We will tailor our programs based on your specific athletic goals, clinical findings, and testing results.
Functional Movement Screening
FMS screen is used to help assess movement deficits and poor biomechanics that limit gains in performance and reduces the body’s adaptability to certain stressors. By putting patients in specific functional positions, it helps to identify the body’s use of compensatory movements in order to achieve or maintain the level of performance needed for the activity. This assessment looks at quality of movement in relation to one’s mobility and stability. The data is useful in creating a specialized home exercise program that helps strengthen and correct the dysfunctional movement patterns that could potentially cause future injury.
Y Balance Testing
The YBT is a simple way to measure a person’s motor control and one’s ability to demonstrate functional symmetry. The YBT allows us to quarter the body (left versus right and upper versus lower body) to test how the core and each extremity function under bodyweight loads.
The YBT requires the patient to balance on one leg while simultaneously reaching as far as possible with the other leg in three separate directions: anterior, posteromedial, and posterolateral. This test measures the patient’s functional strength, stability and balance in these multiplane, functional directions. The YBT composite score is calculated by summing the three reach directions and normalizing the results to the lower limb length. This will reveal any asymmetry in function by taking the difference between right and left limb.
